Doggie Yummies

One of the things I really enjoy doing is baking treats and goodies for my dogs.  They are healthy, usually less costly than purchasing, and most importantly - the dogs LOVE eating them!  So, here are few to get you started.  If you have a favorite recipe you'd like to share, let me know and I can add it to share with others.  You can also visit Bentley's Snack Page for more "dog tested" recipes.

This recipe makes a great training treat.

BARKIN' BEST BROWNIES
         Makes about 64 scrumptious treats
2 – 6oz. cans tuna, undrained (can use canned chicken, turkey, other canned fish)
2 large eggs
1 TBL. garlic powder
1 to 1-1/2 cups unbleached flour
Freshly grated Parmesan or other cheese

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease an 8-inch square pan. Place undrained chicken into a blender or food processor and process until liquefied. Add eggs and liquefy. Add extra water a little at a time, if necessary, to liquefy completely. Pour into a mixing bowl, add the flour and garlic powder and mix until it has the consistency of cake mix. Spread into the prepared pan and sprinkle with lots of parmesan cheese. Bake until the edges pull away and the top looks dry, about 15-20 minutes. Turn out of the pan and let cool. Cut into small squares. These freeze beautifully.

This came from a former client with a lovely Italian Greyhound.  These are so simple and they are lip-lickin' good!
BELLA’S PEANUT BUTTER COOKIES

2 C. whole wheat flour
1 TBL baking powder
1 C. peanut butter, smooth or chunky
1 C. milk

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Combine all ingredients together, mix well. You may need to add a few more drops of milk to get desired consistency. Roll dough a quarter inch thick. Cut into desired shapes. Bake 15-20 min. on a greased baking sheet. Allow to cool completely. These make excellent bite-sized training treats: score into desired small size and bake as directed.

Don't be afraid to do a taste test of these little gems yourself.  These are like a shortbread cookie and your dog might have a hard time getting you to share!
DAISY DOTS
Preheat oven to 375F.
1-3/4 C. flour
½ C. ground walnuts or of choice
2 TBL. toasted wheat germ
1/2 C. vanilla extract
1 egg yolk
½ C. brown sugar
¼ C. sesame seeds, ground (optional)
Rind of 1 lemon, grated (or equivalent dried)
12 TBL. butter or margarine

Combine all ingredients. Knead until thoroughly blended.  Divide into equal parts, roll each into a log. Roll logs loosely in wax paper and freeze until firm.  Let thaw slightly and slice into 1/2 inch thick slices (across roll).  Place on ungreased cookie sheet, flatten slightly (I make an impression with one side of a pie crust edger).  Bake about 12 minutes until lightly browned.
Alternate: Roll out to 1/2" thick and cut into shapes.
